Halloween Parade and Party

Happy Halloween!  We did lots of fun Halloween activities and games in our classroom on Friday!  We read a Halloween story, played games on our smart board and did some Halloween math in the morning.  In the afternoon we listened to spooky music during rest time.  The boys and girls were very wiggly in anticipation for our Parade and Party!  They loved getting dressed up in thier costumes and looking at all of the other kiddos!  We had lots of princesses, superheros, animals, and more!  We were towards the front of the parade and got to go through all of the classrooms and around the track.  After the parade was over we came back and had our first party in Kindergarten.  Both all day kindergarten classes shared the party and the boys and girls had lots of games to choose from in each room.  We had yummy treats and played lots of fun games.  There was a spider fishing game, pumpkin bowling, donut eating race, drop the skeleton into the house, and a bat race game.  We also made pumpkin lanterns, skeletons out of Q-tips and tootsie pop ghosts.  I think our first party was quite a success!  Thank you to all of the parents that donated supplies for our party or volunteered!  We could not pull it off without your help! :)

Look Whoo's Having Fun With Boulan Buddies!

WHOO! WHOO!

Today our Boulan Buddies came to visit for the second time and instead of going into the individual Kinderplus classrooms we combined together in the cafeteria to work on a project.  The kiddos made  a really cute owl are project.  The students used a brown paper bag for the body and then had to cut circles and triangles out of squares.  This was a little tricky for some kiddos!  Our buddies assisted us throughout the project and helped us create some cute owl creations. Our owls are on display in the kindergarten hallway.

Reading Workshop

Today we learned in Reader's Workshop that there are 2 ways to read a book.
1. You can read the words.
2. You can read the pictures.
We practiced reading books from our book boxes.  We also talked about what it looked liked and sounded like when you read the 2 different ways.  We learned whether you are reading the words or the pictures you are thinking about the story.  They are so SMART!Please ask your child tonight which way they chose to read during Reader's Workshop.

WORMS!

We have red worms and night crawlers in our classroom. Yesterday we learned about how they move, where they live, what they need to survive and the parts of the worm's body.  Today the boys and girls got a chance to look at them up close and personal!  We had many brave kiddos that even held the worms!  :)

A Class of Artists!

Each Monday the boys and girls have art class for an hour.  They explore different art mediums and learn about color, texture, lines, and more.  Often the art teacher will tie the art project for the day to children's book.  All of the artwork created over the year is saved and your child will bring home a portfolio at the end of the year.
